  • Arbor Day Coffee House-Live Music

Think green and celebrate trees in song, story, and poetry at an Arbor Day coffee house at First Church of Christ Congregational, 499 Town Street, on Friday, April 17, from 6:30 to 8:30p.m., co-sponsored by First Church and the East Haddam Land Trust.

In April, spring days are getting longer and warmer, and the trees are responding with swelling buds that will unfurl into new leaves. They are a reminder that National Arbor Day is approaching in Connecticut.

Connecticut is the 14th most forested state in the nation and has the highest urban forest cover, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). East Haddam, with 56.6 square miles, benefits from thousands of acres of protected forest land in state parks, conservation entities, and land trust properties.

Trees provide key benefits ranging from heat and pollution mitigation, oxygen creation, increased stormwater absorption, fuel, wood products, food, noise absorption, mental and physical health improvements, lower energy costs, and carbon storage. This Arbor Day, help to plant or hug a tree!

Freewill donations will be gladly accepted to benefit both non-profit organizations.
